spektrum dx8e safe

I have a Spektrum DX8e transmitter connected to an AR637TA receiver in an edf plane and I can't get the safe to work. Anyone know how to set up a safe? it seems that the safe is only active when the transmitter is turned off. thanks

this might have to be done through forward programming (easier said than explained). There are YouTube tutorials explaining the process.
Look for BD Tennessee and Griffin RC Planes on YouTube.
